I show pictures of my use and the golden results, utilizing internet tips about observing steam, portioning/dosing, and my own thing about avoiding spray oils to minimize overspray that frustrates cleanup....rather I suggest a silicone basting brush wipe of an oil or the all impressive and healthier Lard (not butter that browns and burns) prior to cooking to assist the non-stick surface in eventual cleanup. The butter shown in a picture is for the ingredient mix, so since butter (milk based) still scotches, it can leave residue that cooks on. Don't get me wrong, the surfaces are truly NON-STICK. But just like Teflon pans, even "nonstick" builds a fine residue unless it's scrubbed away, and waffler can't be scrubbed due to their shape. Ever buy a Teflon pan for eggs and shortly later it's not nonstick anymore?  Rinse water should instantly leave a dry surface from a pan. If it doesn't, just slowly draining away, that's the residue the rinse water is clinging to. It needs to be scrubbed with the safe blue sponge to maintain the nonstick surface free of residue. So application of the lard, etc, is an easily removable media that can act as a barrier to cooking on that resistant cooking residue. The waffler trays are not removable by design, so cleaning is a small commitment (and should be a commitment), but not a hard project if you adhere to efficient waffling and proper cleaning. Consider a stiff bristle veggie brush to assist.  I only discuss cleaning and maintenance to assist you in preserving appliance for long term enjoy. Many if my appliances and cookware in my life have several decades of good service and still strong, even my Teflon pans. Buy quality, treat it with quality care and handling, and be happy.
