Overview This is a manual focus lens. This lens functions best in "M" manual exposure mode or "A" aperture-priority mode. With some exposure know-how "S" Shutter Priority will also work in many daylight situations with Auto ISO enabled.
The Opteka 500mm f/6.3 Catadioptric Mirror Lens has been designed for compactness without sacrificing image quality. By multiplying the focal length with secondary mirrors, we've effectively halved the optical path, greatly reducing the physical length of the lens compared to equivalent long telephoto lenses. Constructed of aluminum alloy, weight has been kept to a minimum without sacrificing durability. Another benefit of the Opteka 500mm f/6.3 Catadioptric Mirror lens, which is constructed of 7 high index, low dispersion elements in 6 groups, is the near complete absence of chromatic aberration. Super Spectra Coatings on the lens elements additionally provide excellent light transmission, color fidelity, and minimal flaring. The result is an impressively compact long lens particularly handy for backpacking and all day adventures.
In order to facilitate such a compact design, the aperture system (used to control depth of field and light transmission) most commonly found in normal lenses has been removed, making the Opteka 500mm f/6.3 a fixed aperture lens. With advancements in modern camera shutter design, light transmission can easily be controlled by fast 1/4000 or even 1/8000s shutter speeds commonly found in today's cameras. In the rare instances when a scene is still too bright, the 500mm f/6.3 can accept both front 95mm and rear 34mm ND filters.
While bringing distant wildlife, landscapes, sunsets, and the moon to the forefront may be the 500mm f/6.3's bread and butter, this lens provides a unique rendering of up close objects in the macro range. With the entrance pupil of the lens obstructed centrally, the bokeh produced with the Opteka 500mm f/6.3 Mirror Lens is uniquely identifiable. Shipping

We strongly recommend using a carrier that can track your package as you assume all responsibility for the returned item until it arrives to us. 8. If all return items were received according to our policy, expect a refund or replacement within 14 business days.
